Episode five'Terra Incognita'
Synopis & Review by Angela Pollard
Opening scenes. A man is stopped at an airport when an official spots a bite mark bleeding on his neck. Michael asks his old girlfriend to get Kirsty to back off.
Angie exams the man from the airport. It seems he has a complication, which is why the bite is bleeding. The man's sister has to see a Dr. March. When Angie and Pearse interview her she is told that Angie is Dr. March. The woman replies that Dr. March is a man. Angie says her husband is dead. Both the woman and Angie get upset. Pearse pulls Angie out of interview. Pearse continues interviewing the woman. Angie comes back into the room after seeing the woman's brother and says he is stable. Pearse says he would rather she stay with the sick man.
At the airport Vaughan and Michael have gone to check some supposed medical supplies in large crates. When they get there a truck leaves quickly, but one crate is left behind. Vaughan calls for a helicopter and back up for Michael who is following the truck. Vaughan has the crate opened and finds a casket. He has it examined by x-ray machine, but nothing shows up. He orders the airport staff to leave the area.

They take the casket back to headquarters and put it in a special containment room. He and Pearse watch and wait for the casket to open which has a time lock. Vaughan asks about the feeding arrangement. Pearse says I am not sure they have gone without. Vaughan replies, 'well it will just have to go on a diet.'
Michael is on his mobile phone. His old girlfriend tells him both Kirsty and the journalist have quit their jobs and are safely tucked away at Kirsty's place.
Pearse asks Vaughan to stay with the sister, who he is letting go.
Michael calls Pearse and tells him the men in the truck have recognised him. Pearse tells him unless they are heading for cover be patient.
Angie tells Pearse that she does not think the vampires had a feeding frenzy on the man, more like tasting his blood.
Michael asks Pearse to let him pull the truck over as he thinks something is wrong. Pearse agrees. Vaughan still with the sister asks her, what was it she wanted to show them. She takes him to an abandoned locked building. Michael has stopped the truck and found it empty. The driver tells him the crates were never aboard - that the customs man had diverted them.
Back at the abandoned building Vaughan has been knocked out by the customs man and locked inside with four caskets. Michael is 20 minutes away but the sun will be down in nine. Vaughan contemplates shooting himself, rather than face what the vampires will do to him, but he gets an idea. With less than a couple of minutes to go Vaughan pulls a casket next to the locked door. He then speeds up the time lock, causing the casket to open. He shoots the vampire, which explodes blowing a hole in the door for him to escape.
At the lab, the casket has opened. The vampire looks through the glass at Angie and says he is a friend of her husbands.
Michael has arrived at the abandoned building to find the vampires gone, but Vaughan alive and well.
Back at lab, Pearse asks the vampire, what was his name. The vampire says to Pearse, so you are the Priest we have heard so much about. He then tries to get Angie to talk to him, but Pearse tells her to say nothing. The vampire asks her was it the Priest, meaning Pearse, that executed her husband and daughter. Angie gets up and leaves. The vampire says to Pearse he is in no hurry to talk.
Vaughan and Michael find the dead body of the woman.
Angie tells Pearse that the vampires are trying to develop artificial blood, to use to feed on. Pearse says they haven't succeeded which is why they want Angie's husband. She says maybe they do want peace. Pearse says vampires cannot change a habit of a lifetime. Angie says maybe they are evolving. Pearse says they are outside time. Angie tells him, we should keep an open mind. Pearse says that's the most dangerous thing we can do.
Vaughan goes to see Angie, who asks him back for a drink. Back at her place, Angie asks him what the woman said about Robert (Angie's husband). He tells her that the woman said she could have him back. He also tells Angie she should not think when she is tired. She replies I already know what I think. Vaughan tells her to get some rest and leaves.
Meanwhile Michael has gone to meet Kirsty in a club. They talk; she tells him there is nothing going on between her and the journalist. He goes into the toilet and breaks a mirror, which he holds up to see if she has a refection, but he is jumped on and held down by two men. He looks up to see Kirsty running away.
ReviewThis series is building up to an interesting finale. As usual we are left at the end with unanswered questions:
1. Is Kirsty a vampire?
2. Do the vampires really want peace?
3. Will Pearse die?Although Jack Davenport might have received most of the publicity, the most interesting developments, interaction and performances come form Idris, Susannah and Philip. Idris's character was given scope and contributed very well in this episode. It is Susannah and Philips's interaction and depth of characterisation intertwined in the stories surrounding them that make this series special and make you want to continue watching.
